Job Specifics
Duties Description •Perform sensitive audits and investigations.
•Plan scope and method of investigation based on Department policy, the accessibility of information and the importance of the case.
•Take statements and affidavits from individuals in an appropriate format, taking care to include a full description of the facts needed to support the investigation.
•Review assigned cases or complaints from the public to determine the section of law, rule or regulation that applies and to identify the issues and the types of information needed.
•Review documents to extract pertinent information and verifies the validity of information obtained through comparison with other sources or in consultation with Department program staff.
•Prepare factual, timely, and concise written reports of information gathered during an investigation; and may recommend an appropriate course of action consistent with the findings and Department policy and practices.
•Testify at administrative hearings regarding the details of investigations and conclusions reached.
•Develop and implement strategies for conducting proactive systematic reviews of Department policies and procedures.
•Obtain, inventory, and safeguard evidence according to agency procedures and legal requirements.
•Conduct in-depth analysis of Department records and investigative data to derive pertinent findings related to violations of law, rule, regulation, or Department policy.
•Participate in joint operations with other Investigators to aid with time sensitive investigations.
•Analyze and evaluate the adequacy of operating policies and procedures.
•Supervise a small staff.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree and 3 years of experience with investigations and/or audits. Or an Associate's Degree and 5 years of required experience. OR 7 years of required experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
•Advanced proficiency with Excel.
•Excellent oral and written communication skills, including an ability to synthesize large volume of information and explain complex subject matters.
•A work-related familiarity with New York State government and laws
•The ideal candidate possesses high integrity, strong judgment, maintains strict adherence to confidentiality, has a collegial attitude, and is a self-starter with the capacity to work independently. The ideal candidate is also a critical thinker and highly adept multitasker who displays both a sense of urgency and an ability to meet deadlines.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Travel may be required.
